Voyages of Discovery in the Pacific

In 1769, Captain James Cook reached New Zealand aboard the Endeavour and subsequently circumnavigated and mapped the two main islands.

I set out to photograph places mentioned in the Endeavour logbook. But I soon found that many had already been marked by monuments, memorials and plaques commemorating Cook’s presence.

These traces of remembrance became part of the project. Following Cook’s route around New Zealand, I photographed them alongside places recorded in the logbook or named by Cook and his crew.
